Today kicks off the celebration of the Halloween season here at The Drunken Severed Head @ UMA. For your first treat, tricksters, I present a scan of a 2004 box of Kellogg’s “Limited Edition” version of its FROOT LOOPS cereal, called “The Haunted FROOT LOOPS Manor.”
The back of the box is full of Halloween art, puzzles and jokes, and made me feel like a kid again when I looked at it in the grocery store. The art reminds me of old Bill Elder cartoon work for the MAD comic book of the 1950s, which I saw in the ’70s in reprints. (Just to assure you I am not as old as MAD is!)
Hey–you wanna make banana ghosts?
Yeah, that’s what I said– a banana ghost. A ghost with appeal.
Kellogg’s tells ya how to make one (no sacrifices or seances are involved) right on the left side of the box. I think the “banana ghost” treat pictured looks more like a tentacle than a spectre, but as I’ve never seen a banana ghost, who am I to say?
Or maybe it’s a cankered kidney banana. Could be! Anyway, eat well and have fun, creepy kiddies!
